We’ve been designing custom accounting software at our UK base since 2010 and have wide-ranging experience in creating sophisticated financial, brokerage and accountancy systems.
Case Studies
Bespoke accounting software is worth building when an off-the-shelf package — Xero, Sage or QuickBooks — leaves your team working in spreadsheets around it: unusual billing rules, several companies or currencies to consolidate, approvals, or finance data that has to flow into your own systems. Often the best result is not a new ledger but a custom layer that keeps the package as the book of record and automates everything around it. A first release usually takes 6–8 weeks; our rates start from £49/hour per developer, and £65–£70/hour for a full team with QA and product ownership.
| Approach | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Package only (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks) | Standard bookkeeping, VAT and statutory accounts | Your process bends to the package; workarounds live in spreadsheets |
| Package + bespoke layer | Custom billing, approvals, portals, reporting on top of a trusted ledger | Two systems to keep in sync — the integration has to be built well |
| Fully bespoke system | When the accounting is your product, or your rules cannot fit a package | Highest cost; you own compliance changes, including MTD |
In our 2026 estimates, a first production release (MVP) of a custom web or mobile product cost £11,000–£34,000, with a median of about £25,000 — see what 12 real UK projects cost. Discovery, which turns your requirements into a costed plan and a fixed-price quote, starts from £3,000. For a rough number on your own feature list, try the cost calculator.

Such solutions provide users with the widest range of functions for performing accounting tasks. You can use this software to both write and submit reports and check for new changes in the law, and the review process is simple. Sage, Xero and QuickBooks are the best-known examples in the UK.
Enterprises deal with large volumes of data and accounting departments usually choose ready-made solutions in order to work separately from other corporate data. This leads to manual handling of import/export operations and potentially a number of technical mistakes. As a result, the cost of production, business efficiency and ROI cannot be immediately calculated without a data update.
This refers to software with a common set of features that can be tailored to a specific industry, yet such examples have many limitations. Due to their overall complexity and the fact that many users do not need many of the features, it is often difficult to deal with third-party systems.
Our Achievements:
If you don’t want to spend time figuring out how third-party services work, it's best to create a custom software service based on all your specific needs. We deliver custom accounting applications in the UK and around the world that help our clients get a more productive experience with financial documents. The custom software is easy to use, offers high performance and can compete with existing software on the market.
The main advantage of custom accounting software is the possibility of integration with other systems and corporate data. As a result of this, you can see all outlays, costs and profits in the course of production. You get a single database, reporting and any custom forms necessary for both multi-currency accounting and for exchange rate differences, cross-balance transactions and parallels for foreign trade activities.
Magora specialises in the development of custom accounting software to provide high-quality solutions for companies of all sizes. In our work, we employ modern technology and time-tested methods to handle each project.
The solutions we offer are:
We have established strategic alliances with many clients in the UK and abroad. We use a flexible service model to tailor our services to the specific needs of our customers and always implement state-of-the-art technology and advanced delivery models. Our relationships with various global companies have allowed us to acquire deep knowledge across multiple industries.
We work with our customers to determine their requirements and then design solutions based upon them. We acquire knowledge in the the financial field through long-term customer relationships, which helps us in turn to develop customer-specific systems.
To remain competitive in a market characterised by rapid technological development and low customer loyalty, we’re always trying to introduce new finance solutions and to modify and improve existing ones, providing faster and more flexible systems.

With invoice-focused accounting software, you get the latest reports on customer payments. These reports provide details of what the customer owes you and the amount paid.
This can help you manage and control your finances effectively. You may ask a customer to speed up a payment and minimise the loss. As a result, accounting software provides reliable information on accounts payable and helps increase profits.
Manual invoices are easily lost. On the other hand, accounting applications store all data and information securely in one place.
You can view, reprint, and re-bill if necessary. In addition, you can easily search the software for invoices containing numbers, names etc. and the DB does the work.
As the system organises all input data correctly, the process is quick and easy.
Based on recent trends in accounting software, your bespoke solution will be able to track inventory of products and provide updated details about inventory levels.
You will get the opportunity to automatically track inventory even when processing product orders. Most importantly, the program can predict when you might be out of stock so you can order more items in advance.
Therefore, this inventory tracking feature provides accurate data and helps you save time.
Accounting products help you centralise key business processes and tasks such as customer relationship management, billing, payroll, inventory management and more.
As a result, a complete accounting package can help you save a great deal of time and money and make your business processes easier and more efficient.
The accounting platform can calculate the tax amount that needs to be paid for each invoice.
An advanced system even allows you to submit tax returns electronically from within the product.
You are one step away from your business optimisation.

In our 2026 estimates, a first production release of a custom web or mobile product cost £11,000–£34,000, with a median of about £25,000 (12 real UK project estimates). Our rates start from £49/hour per developer, and £65–£70/hour for a full team with QA and product ownership. Discovery, which turns your requirements into a costed plan and a fixed-price quote, starts from £3,000.
A first release usually lands in 6–8 weeks after Discovery. We build in phases: the workflow that costs your team the most time goes first, integrations and reporting follow, so the system is earning its keep before the full scope is done.
Usually integrate. A package such as Xero, Sage or QuickBooks stays your book of record and handles statutory accounts and VAT, while a bespoke layer handles what the package cannot: your billing rules, approvals, client portal, consolidation or reporting. A fully bespoke ledger makes sense only when the accounting itself is your product or your rules cannot be expressed in a package.
Yes. HMRC's Making Tax Digital requires digital records and submission through MTD-compatible software. A bespoke system can either pass its records to a recognised package that submits for you, or submit directly through HMRC's MTD APIs, which needs registration with HMRC and their production approval. We recommend the first route unless direct submission is central to your product.
Yes. IPR in bespoke software shall, without prejudice to our rights in pre-existing IPR, be transferred to you on payment of the requested amount relating to such work. English-law contract with Thinking Fish Ltd (trading as Magora), Companies House 03637036.
We design for UK GDPR from the start: encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access so staff see only what their role needs, an audit log of who changed what, and hosting in a UK or EU region of your choice. Bank and payment data goes through regulated providers (Open Banking, Stripe, GoCardless) rather than being stored by the application.
